Every year some three million people in the UK are injured in accidents. Accidents can disrupt,
and, in some cases, destroy your way of life. In addition to your injuries, you may have had to
take time off work and lost earnings. You may have had additional expenses for medical treatment,
travelling expenses or may have needed help with household tasks.
Although two thirds of accident victims consider that someone else was to blame, only a
quarter actually make a claim for compensation. Often, the reason is fear of the cost of bringing
the claim. If they go to court and lose, they could be liable for the other side's legal expenses
as well as their own - the bill could run to many thousands of pounds. It may well be necessary to
obtain expensive reports from doctors, engineers or other experts. If the claim is successful,
these outlays will be recoverable at the end of the case - but how are they going to be paid for in
the meantime?
Digby Brown recognises the difficulties and has formed its own funding company,
Compensate, which gives accident victims access to justice
with no financial risk.
