Sponsorship
Having been title sponsors of the Scottish motorcycle race team that brought
home both the 2008 Scottish Supersport 600 Championship and the North East Motorcycle Racing Club
Sound of Thunder Championship, this year, we have decided to help a number of talented Scottish
motorcycle racers.
The Digby Brown sponsored racers are a mixed bunch – in the nicest possible way! They
range from, Sammi Tasker and Jodie Chalk to Derek Glass, who has been racing since 1979! In between
the youngest and the most experienced rider in the Digby Brown stable come 16-year-old Deane Brown,
David Paton, who is 20 and the inspirational Douglas Racing sidecar team.
Sammi Tasker, who is from Clackmannan, is competing in
the Formula 125 class and the GP125 class and will mainly be racing in Scotland, although she hopes
to make the occasional foray to race circuits down south.
Jodie Chalk, who is from Kirkcaldy, is participating in the
125 Aprilia Superteen Challenge 2009, which will involve competing in the support races at this
year’s Moto GP round at Donnington and the British round of World Superbikes. Jodie also intends
racing in the Melville Motor Club’s Formula 125 Championships, which are held at East Fortune Race
Circuit, near Edinburgh.
Deane 'Deano' Brown won’t be seeing much of his
Motherwell home this year as he is competing in the Red Bull Rookies Cup, which runs alongside the
World Moto GP. Deano will also be riding for Colin Appleyard/Macadam in the GP 125 Championship,
which takes place alongside the British Superbikes.
Loanhead’s
David Paton, who is riding for Team Paramed UK, is
competing in the Scottish Championship Supersport 600 class and also British SuperSport, so he will
be racing at tracks all over the UK.
Derek Glass, who is from Kirriemuir, is focusing on the 600 Production Championship at
Knockhill and Superstock 600 at Melville. In August, Derek will be heading off to the Isle of Man
to race in the Junior and Senior Manx Grand Prix.
Douglas Racing consists of Kerr Douglas, Britain’s
first paraplegic sidecar racing driver, and Jenny MacCallum, who are both from the Inverness area.
As part of Digby Brown’s continued support for Douglas Racing, we have provided Kerr and Jenny with
a specially-adapted awning for their lorry.
We also support two of the motorcycle clubs which organise many of Scotland’s race meetings,
Melville Motor Club and
Kircaldy and District Motorcycle Club.
Digby Brown is also a proud supporter of the Grampian Motorcycle Convention at Alford, which
this year takes place on Sunday, September 6. This is one of the north of Scotland’s premier events
for motorcyclists, featuring vintage, classic and modern motorbikes, as well as the legendary
Scottish Championship Moped Marathon.
As part of our commitment to motorcycling and motorcyclists, we are one of the main sponsors
of
TransGlobeMoto 2009, the round-the-world motorcycle
adventure which is raising funds for Capability Scotland. For the first leg of the journey, the
team will include Dave Burduss, who will be riding the world's first series-manufactured high
performance motorcycle that can be ridden from a wheelchair.
