BRAKE benefits from Ben Nevis challenge
On 27th June 2009, Melanie Todd and five of her colleagues from the Digby Brown’s Glasgow
Referral Team headed north to begin their charity ascent of Ben Nevis.
Having decided to attempt the walk at New Year, the team had chosen BRAKE, a charity
providing support for road crash victims and carrying out road safety campaigns around the UK, to
benefit from their feat.
Spirits buoyed by the scorching sunshine for the duration of the walk, the team were able to
enjoy the breathtaking scenery however, as they reached the summit a sudden drastic contrast in the
weather only added to their sense of achievement. Melanie said: “As we posed for photographs
through the snow and mist, it really felt as though we had reached 4406ft above sea level!”
Once at the bottom, a cold, celebratory drink in the Nevis Inn finished the day perfectly as
between them they had secured over £1,000 in sponsorship to reach the highest peak in the UK.
Melanie said: “We thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and were delighted to raise money for such a
worthwhile charity. We have all caught the bug now and won’t be able to resist another climb next
year. Apparently Kilimanjaro is something of a challenge. Watch this space...”
