Digby Brown complete the Caledonian Challenge

Digby Brown Teams completed the Caledonian Challenge, which took place on Saturday 11 June completing the 54 miles from Gairlochy north of Fort William to Auchtertyre south of Tyndrum in under 23 hours. The two teams of five were made up of in the main by partners and managers at the firm, with four support crew to help soothe the many blisters collected on the way.

David Wilson, a partner in the firm said 'I suggested this challenge to my colleagues as it is a test of preparation, determination and organisation exactly the qualities that we value so highly in the firm. I was very keen that the partners and managers demonstrated these qualities in such extreme conditions.'

The Challenge itself covers 54 miles from Gairlochy on the Great Glen Way then takes the West Highland Way from Fort William before ending 3 miles south of Tyndrum and the Digby Brown Teams took up the Challenge at 7.00am on Saturday 11 June. At each checkpoint they were met by a hardworking Support Crew who treated them to a comfortable seat and beautiful presented home prepared food full of the carbohydrates and proteins needed to carry them onwards - the rather nice red wine served at the evening checkpoint in Glencoe restored a sense of normality to some of the Team members! The Support Crew were then required to clear up and to race on to the next checkpoint to prepare for the Teams' arrival.

David Wilson who transferred to the Support Crew because of a recent knee operation commented ³ To be with colleagues in a totally different environment brings us all closer together².

As the Teams struggled in the dark across the Black Mount towards Inveroran and into a blizzard of midges thick enough to eat, David may not have appreciated his colleagues thoughts on his suggestion of taking up the Caledonian Challenge.

Spirits were lifted with the finishing line in sight and by the knowledge that the Scottish Community Foundation would benefit by over £6000 so generously donated in sponsorship by family, friends, clients and professional colleagues.
