2007 saw Digby Brown reach the milestone of 100 and to celebrate
250 people met at Edinburgh Castle…
Digby Seymour Brown 1881 – 1952
Digby Brown was born at Langbank, Erskine on 25 April 1881, the son of a merchant
seaman, William Brown, and his wife Isabella. He was brought up in Greenock and after serving
a law apprenticeship he set up in practice in Glasgow in 1907. He quickly acquired a
reputation as a civil court practitioner and he forged an association with the trade union movement
which survives to this day. By the time of his death on 11 August 1952, his firm was recognised as
one of the leading reparation practices in Scotland. Subsequently, the firm expanded into Edinburgh
(1983), Dundee (1987) and Glenrothes (1998). With just over one hundred partners and staff,
Digby Brown’s pre-eminence in the personal injury field has been recognised by the award of a Band
1 ranking by Chambers Guide to the UK Legal Profession.
