Accidents at Work (Trade Union)
Digby Brown is experienced in dealing with industrial accident claims especially
through a long-standing relationship with the Scottish trade union movement. Many of the
leading cases on European Health and Safety Regulations have been fought by Digby Brown. Our
expertise in workplace health and safety is driven by our Union and Employment Departments.
We continue to invest heavily in training to keep abreast of the relevant legislation and
case law and consequently have been at the forefront of developing the law for the benefit of
accident victims.
In an employment context, your employer, and others, have a duty to provide you with a safe
place of work including safe equipment, a safe system of working and adequate training and
instruction. If you are injured because your employer has failed in these duties, you may be able
to prove negligence and bring a claim for compensation. In addition, statutory provisions play an
increasing role in the regulation of the workplace.
If you have been hurt or have developed an illness (see Industrial disease) because of your
working environment, due in someway to negligence or breach of statutory duty by your employer, you
may have a claim.
