Digby Brown announce Partner and Associate – level promotions 2014

Digby Brown Solicitors are pleased to announce that Dawn McCafferty has been assumed by the firm as a Partner.

The firm has also announced six further Associate promotions in their Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow offices. 

Dawn McCafferty joined Digby Brown in 2008 and has handled some of the firm’s most difficult and challenging cases in recent years. She has developed a notable track record in conducting and winning proofs in both the Sheriff Court and Court of Session. Dawn has a particular expertise in Employers Liability Cases, becoming one of the leading practitioners within the firm. She has been recognised for her innovative and pro-active approach when dealing with cases.

Digby Brown have a long-standing and well-recognised expertise in the field of brain and spinal cord injury cases, handling some of the most complex and high-value civil actions taken each year in Scotland. Those cases are dealt with exclusively by Digby Brown’s Serious Injury Department. Melanie Todd and Stuart Barton have been promoted to the position of Associate within that department.

Both Melanie and Stuart have extensive expertise in recovering compensation for clients with spinal cord and brain injuries.Melanie Todd joined Digby Brown as a trainee in 2004. She has handled a wide variety of cases including high value appeals to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority. She has run Proofs in the Sheriff Court and the Court of Session. 

Stuart Barton also joined as a trainee in 2007. Stuart has spent his career to date as a valued member of the Serious Injury department. He regularly litigates high value cases in the Court of Session and has run cases to Proof in the Outer House and in the Inner House. He also has particular knowledge and expertise in the areas of Capacity and Guardianship orders, appearing regularly in Sheriff Courts throughout Scotland. 

Simon Richards becomes an Associate in Digby Brown’s specialist Foreign and Travel Law Department in Edinburgh having played a leading role in this cutting-edge department since its inception. Simon joined Digby Brown in 2009 and has brought a fresh and creative approach to this growing area of the firm’s work. 

Jennifer Watson has developed a wealth of experience in a niche area of  personal injury law, dealing with claims resulting from cosmetic and beauty therapy treatments. Jennifer becomes an Associate in the firm’s Dundee office having joined the firm in 2008

Diane Cooper becomes an Associate within our Glasgow office. Diane has handled a wide-range of complex cases both at Sheriff Court and Court of Session Level. Her straight forward and personable approach has served her well working closely with individuals and firms across Scotland who represent clients through Digby Brown’s Compensate Personal Injury Network. 

David Swanney becomes an Associate in the Union Department in recognition of the leading role he has played in representing workers at a time when many basic workplace health and safety rights have been threatened by UK Government policy. David has proven tenacious and resourceful when dealing with challenging cases.
