Legal and Welfare Advice support to Child Brain Injury Trust

Two happy children

Digby Brown work across the head injury community, supporting organisations that do invaluable work helping people of all ages living with a brain injury.

One of the organisations we work closely with is the Child Brain Injury Trust in Scotland.

Established in 1991, the Child Brain Injury Trust helps children, young people, their families and professionals to come to terms with what has happened and how to deal with the uncertainty that the future holds.

In recent years, staff from across Digby Brown have helped the organisation fundraise, put on a series of Family Days across Scotland and celebrate their 21st Birthday.

Earlier this month, we joined the Child Brain Injury Trust at their first Family Day of 2014, held at Edinburgh’s International Climbing Arena near Ratho, to launch a Scottish Legal and Welfare Advice line.

The service provides free legal advice and discounted legal services in a wide range of areas, including;

- Welfare Rights Advice and Representation

- Personal Injury Claims

- Personal Injury Settlement Trusts

- Powers of Attorney

- Guardianships

- Wills or Executory matters

- Buying or Selling a house

- Independent Financial Advice

- Family Law and Divorce

The advice line number is 0333 323 0189 (local rate number, even from a mobile).

Chris Stewart, Head of Digby Brown’s Serious Injury Department and Kathleen McMonagle, the firm’s Client Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, joined Child Brain Injury Trust staff and young people and families the organisation supports at the Family Day to launch the service.

Chris Stewart said;

“We’ve been really pleased and proud to work with the Child Brain Injury Trust in Scotland in recent years, supporting the fantastic work they do.

"This Scottish Legal and Welfare Advice Line is a development of our work together and one I hope will benefit families and young people living with a brain injury in Scotland.”

Kathleen McMonagle, who heads Digby Brown specialist Welfare Rights team said:

“From working closely with the Child Brain Injury Trust we understand the breadth of challenges, whether related to welfare, changes in the benefits system or wider legal issues, that families can face.

"This service will provide families with access to advice when they need it most.”

Mark Hooley, Marketing & Communications Manager at the Child Brain Injury Trust added:

“We’re pleased to have had Digby Brown support us in Scotland for a number of years now, from fundraising initiatives to sponsoring some of our family events.

"The continued support from Digby Brown allows us to help more children with acquired brain injury and their families in Scotland.”
