Tumble Dryer Fires – Hotpoint Recall Dangerous Models

ITV news has reported that a recall notice for some models of Hotpoint, Indesit and Creda tumble dryers has been issued following safety concerns.

The models affected were manufactured between April 2004 and September 2015. It is suggested that excess fluff can come into contact with the heating element and present a risk of fire.

The reports of the recall indicate that Indesit, a major domestic appliance company, is contacting customers to arrange repairs while advising that the models can continue to be used as long as they are not left unattended.

Consumers can check if their tumble dryers are affected on the Hotpoint website.

Mark Gibson, Digby Brown Partner and head of the firm’s Product Liability team said:

“It is important where there is a recall of this serious nature, involving a widely used household product, that the message reaches those who are likely to be affected. It is unclear, at this stage, why it took so long for the company to alert consumers to this dangerous defect.  We are currently investigating incidences where fires may have been started by a Hotpoint tumble dryer.

“I would encourage consumers to check whether their tumble dryer is one of the models affected by visiting the Hotpoint website.  We can provide legal advice if individuals think they may have been affected by a faulty model.”
