Supporting people with a brain injury across Dumfries & Galloway

We are delighted to continue our partnership with Compass BISL to improve care for people with a brain injury across Dumfries & Galloway.

Compass are the only group of its kind in the area and provide specialist services for adults, children and young people with acquired brain injury (ABI) along with their families and carers.

The donation from Digby Brown has helped fund the hiring of an apprentice support worker, Zoe Taylor, who is based at Compass’ rehabilitation centre on the town’s Afton Drive.

This partnership also means ABI victims can access expert legal advice as part of the charity’s support package.

Owen Fielding, Business Operations Manager at Compass, said: “This partnership aims to bring significant benefits and enhance the future of individuals and their families across the region.

“It means that as well as helping during various stages of a person’s recovery, we can now show them the path to securing financial settlements if their ABI is the result of third-party negligence.

“We will continue to do everything possible to improve the lives of our clients as we believe that living with a brain injury might impact a person’s way of life, but it doesn’t need to impact their identity.”

Compass has served ABI victims for nearly 30 years in the Dumfries & Galloway region.

It works alongside social care, medical professionals and community stakeholders to improve the quality of life for all victims and their families.

The charity also provides days out and respite events for carers and young children affected by ABIs.

Chris Stewart, Head of Digby Brown's Serious Injury department, is proud to work alongside Compass as it adds legal expertise to the programme.

He said: “Digby Brown has worked with people with brain injuries for over 40 years so we understand that following a traumatic or acquired brain injury people can often feel isolated and unsure of the next step.

“Compass and their team of experienced staff offer these individuals, their families and carers access to the information, advice, support and rehabilitation they need to move forward.

“Working alongside Compass we will be able to ensure the group’s service users also have access to the best legal advice from our specialist serious injury team to help them regain control of their future.”
