A UK charity that supports victims of asbestos exposure has recognised Digby Brown as a go-to firm for legal advice in Scotland.

Mesothelioma UK, which supports victims of asbestos exposure, believes adding our Industrial Disease team to their expert legal panel will make a “significant difference” to the lives of sufferers.

The announcement follows years of landmark results with asbestos disease claims and it is hoped even more people who are Scottish, or were exposed to asbestos in Scotland, now have better access to justice.

Fraser Simpson, Head of our Industrial Disease department, said:

“Legal advice is not merely about damages – it helps access enhanced medical treatment and safeguards your loved ones’ future.

“People have been affected by legal barriers for years – such as when an English firm was unable to secure Scottish remedies for someone who was either Scottish or exposed to asbestos in Scotland.

“This is a serious problem because such barriers aren’t just a nuisance – they can be deadly.

“We are therefore happy to be included in the Mesothelioma UK legal panel as it means we can help provide even more mesothelioma sufferers and their families with a way to break down these barriers.

“And crucially, it means those responsible for the exposure can be held accountable via robust court actions that, in turn, enhance justice for others in the future.”

Mesothelioma is a terminal cancer that can only be contracted after being exposed to asbestos and typically affects the lining of the lungs.

The UK has the highest incidence of the disease in the world with around 2,700 people diagnosed each year – that’s more than the number of people who are killed in road traffic accidents.

Digby Brown’s formal inclusion to the panel sees them join 11 other firms – 10 of which are based in England.

Mesothelioma UK Chief Executive, Liz Darlison commented:

“We’re delighted to be able to announce the expansion of our Legal Panel.

“Mesothelioma UK is eager to help and support patients in all matters relating to their mesothelioma diagnosis including compensation.

“Engaging with an experienced, specialist law firm can make a significant difference to people living with mesothelioma.”
