Amy received the accreditation following an intensive Law Society of Scotland training and certification programme aimed at enhancing knowledge and care of psychological trauma:

“Knowledge and understanding of trauma are key to solicitors being able to represent clients efficiently. At Digby Brown we have always been empathetic and supportive to our clients because every day we help and support those in need.”

Such expertise is vital in assisting injury survivors – especially those who have suffered brain or spinal cord injuries or loss of limb. These are the types of cases Amy handles on a daily basis.

She said:

“I chose to work within our firm’s serious injury department because I wanted to truly help those most in need. I feel privileged to be in a position where I can make a difference to the lives of those who have suffered psychological trauma.”

Amy knows that survivors of serious injury need to feel assured that their solicitor truly understands the physical and emotional impact their accident has had on their lives - all while ensuring they receive the best possible care, rehabilitation and life-affirming support they need going forwards.

While it goes hand in hand with the role of a serious injury solicitor to be aware of trauma that affects your client, during the certification course, Amy learned to recognise the impact of trauma in people she helps.

She is able to practice in a way that does no further damage, encourages recovery and is most effective for those affected by trauma.

“I know how difficult it is for people to talk about their trauma, so to be entrusted to be the person to help them is something I take very seriously and handle with care.

“I might be the first to receive the formal accreditation but in truth, everyone at Digby Brown has the compassion, delicacy, empathy and understanding that is key to being trauma informed.

“It’s in the nature of our people and at the core of our ethos because every day we see the real world impacts of serious injuries and how it can affect the different and unique support measures needed by our clients.

“I’m therefore hopeful more people at the firm – and indeed across the personal injury sector – will take part in the training to receive this same accreditation in due course as we all work towards making life-affirming change to people’s lives.”
