Simon is a Partner and Head of the Edinburgh Network department at Digby Brown. He joined the firm straight out of University as a trainee in 2005 before becoming Partner in 2015. Simon previously led Digby Brown’s Edinburgh General Personal Injury team before its merger with the Network Department to create the firm’s largest litigation team.

Simon specialises in all aspects of personal injury litigation with particular expertise in accidents at work. He regularly supports and represents families at Fatal Accident Inquiries and has acted in complex fatal accident cases involving medical and legal causation issues including public transport such as trams, buses and boating incidents as well as deaths in custody. Simon has extensive experience in the Court of Session and sheriff courts and is recognised by the Legal 500 as a leading solicitor for injured clients.

He plays an active role in the development of Scotland’s civil justice system, including the establishment and evolution of the All Scotland Personal Injury Court where he has sat as a member of the Court’s User Group since 2017. Simon helped lead practitioner development and the operational trial of Civil Online and he remains closely involved with court users and procedural development in this area.

Simon is a member of many internal Digby Brown initiatives including our Practice Standards Group and AI Innovation Group. He is Certified in Legal Technology by the Law Society of Scotland and has a longstanding interest in the practical application of legal technology and innovation within litigation practice.

Simon regularly teaches internally and externally, including on the Central Law Training Personal Injury course and has previously taught on the Personal Injury course on the Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Edinburgh.
