Glasgow solicitors raise over £13,600 for Macmillan Cancer Support

Solicitors in Digby Brown’s Glasgow office were excited to present a cheque for £13,630.76 to Macmillan Cancer Support, their charity partner for 2017.

Jayne Forbes, Fundraising Manager for the West of Scotland at Macmillan Cancer Support came along to our Glasgow office to meet some of our staff and learn more about what the Glasgow team have done to raise such an incredible amount.

Throughout 2017, the team have been hard at work raising funds by partaking in various activities including collecting donations in Glasgow city centre, a quiz night and a team hike up Ben Lomond.

Macmillan Cancer Support

With more than one in three people suffering from cancer at some point in their lives, Macmillan offer invaluable support to those who find themselves diagnosed with this disease. From providing support through community nurses or assisting patients with claiming the benefits they are entitled to.

The money raised by the Glasgow office could help pay for:

  • Welfare rights advisers to run the welfare rights element of their phone service for three days. In this time, they could, on average, deal with 237 individual cases and help secure £575,502 in unclaimed benefits.
  • The development of a new Direct Volunteering Scheme for one year, such as our Helping Matters practical and emotional support service.
  • A Macmillan nurse for three months, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.
  • Over 38 Macmillan grants which help people with cancer to meet costs that can arise from the condition and its treatment.

Jayne Forbes from Macmillan Cancer Support said, “We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Digby Brown who walked, baked, bought, donated and helped in many other ways to raise a magnificent £13,630.70 for us.

“At Macmillan we know cancer can affect everything. Your body, your relationships, your money, everything. But our team are here to help people live life, no matter what. We give them the support they need to hold on to who they are and what’s important.

“But we can’t do it without you 98% of our funding is from donations and quite simply, we couldn’t provide our services without support from people in Glasgow.”

For 2018, the Glasgow office have chosen Simon Community Scotland as their local charity for the year. The charity offer services and support to the homeless in the aim that they can help those impacted overcome homelessness.
