How did the cycling accident happen?

At the time of the accident Mr Begen was the lead cyclist in a group of cyclists from East Kilbride Road Club. They were cycling along the usual route they take on a Saturday morning. 

As they cycled through the village of Glespin, South Lanarkshire, a car overtook the pack of cyclists so that the vehicle was positioned in front of Mr Begen. Suddenly, and for no reason or without any warning, the driver braked.

Consequently, Mr Begen was unable to take evasive action and his bike collided with the rear of the vehicle. He was then catapulted through the rear windscreen and suffered nasty injuries.

Mr Begen was transferred to hospital by ambulance where he received surgery for significant facial lacerations and treatment for whiplash injuries.
