Digby Brown has been hailed as a top UK employer following a prestigious independent review.

Investors in People (IiP) surveyed staff at the personal injury firm with a combination of anonymous questionnaires and confidential interviews.

Judges were impressed not only by the firm’s litigation and business success but by the way it cares – and operates – for its people.

These included measures like monthly live CEO video updates, flexible and hybrid working options, preservation of bonuses during business challenges of lockdown and sincere praise to those who go above and beyond.

Fraser Oliver, Chief Executive at Digby Brown, said:

“Investors in People offers a unique, thorough and independent insight into the culture of Digby Brown so we really welcome this third accreditation.

“We operate as one team to deliver the best personal injury legal service, develop the best legal talent in the sector and give back to communities and I firmly believe these goals are best achieved when our people feel listened to, valued and given the opportunities and support to excel and grow.

“We care for today and the future so while the IiP confirms what we’re doing right we are never complacent and continually look for innovative ways to create the best possible working environment.”

The IiP reviews are conducted every three years with platinum, gold, silver and standard bandings distributed to organisations following in-depth research.

Only 3% of UK businesses ever achieve platinum and Digby Brown became the first UK law firm to achieve platinum in 2016 – it retained platinum a second time in 2019.

The firm has 290 staff across seven offices throughout Scotland and is top-ranked for personal injury work in Chambers & Partners and The Legal 500.

In a post-review commentary, an examiner from IiP said:

“It is abundantly clear your clients are at the heart of everything (Digby Brown) does and this ethos runs through its people.

“It is clear to me from the conversations with people from across Digby Brown that this is an organisation which is focused on the future and on delivering positive outcomes for people. You embrace change and are looking at ways to build on your impressive growth record.”

The areas where the firm was found to be strong include trust in leadership, staff felt valued and staff ideas to improve the business were always taken on board.

Wendy Quinn, HR Director for the firm, added:

“Digby Brown is a values-based organisation with a value-based approach to business and we are lucky to have so many people in the firm share these values.

“What makes this third accreditation more rewarding is it comes amid the challenges and after-effects of COVID-19.

“Not only did COVID completely change the way businesses everywhere operate but it changed the expectations and motivations of workers.

“But the benchmark-setting analysis of Investors in People provides really useful indicators in excellence that benefits everyone - in simple terms, if you provide a good working environment then not only do people want to work but they want to do a good job.”
