Digby Brown staff complete 400km handcycle challenge for Global’s Make Some Noise
When Heart radio presenter Graeme Stevely (better known as Grado) set off on his Granite to Glasgow challenge at the beginning of October - handcycling 400km from Aberdeen to Glasgow to raise money for Global’s Make Some Noise - our staff were inspired to take on their own version of the journey.
Now in our second year sponsoring Heart’s annual Make Some Noise challenge, we knew we wanted to go one step further to support such a worthwhile cause - and so a stationary handcycle was set up in our Glasgow office where staff took turns pedalling with the pledge that each kilometre achieved meant a further £5 donation to the charity.
Colleagues quickly realised just how gruelling this challenge would be, but with teams across the firm from different departments engaging in some friendly competition we kept the kilometres climbing.
By the end of the challenge, which spanned five weeks, our staff had successfully reached the 400km target raising an amazing £2,000… but that’s not all!
While not strictly meeting our criteria for match funding, the firm made the decision to match the total meaning a massive £4,000 was raised for the charity - all directly going to support local causes across Scotland.
Craig Semple, Marketing Director at Digby Brown, commented: "When we challenged Grado we wanted to do more than just applaud from the sidelines.
“Setting up our own stationary handcycle allowed everyone across the office to feel part of the journey and show their support in a tangible way.
“It brought people together, sparked some healthy competition and gave us all a small insight into the determination needed for such a challenge - all while raising vital funds for Global’s Make Some Noise.”
A huge thank you to everyone who took part in support of such an amazing charity.
