Gary joined Digby Brown having graduated with LLB (Hons) from the University of Strathclyde. He qualified as a solicitor in 2013, became an Associate in 2017 and became a Partner in 2023. Gary has specialised in Industrial Disease work such as asbestos related conditions, noise induced deafness, hand-arm vibration syndrome and other associated occupational illness cases since 2013. 

As well as being a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), he has been recognised by Chambers and Partners, an independent legal directory, as up and coming in Personal Injury – Pursuer, Industrial Disease. Gary is also a Notary Public and a Law Society of Scotland Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury.

Over the course of his career pursuing cases for victims of asbestos exposure, Gary has been successful in landmark case for those diagnosed with pleural plaques:

  • Wales v The Advocate General for Scotland [2015] CSOH 111  - Scotland’s first ever quantum decision regarding the value of a provisional damages award for pleural plaques.
  • Harris v The Advocate General for Scotland [2016] CSOH 49 –  Scotland’s first decision on the methodology to be employed when calculating full and final damages for pleural plaques.

Additionally, Gary was successful in the case of Brenda Gray & Others v The Advocate General for Scotland [2016] CSOH 166 which clarified the definition of “child” under section 14 the Damages (Scotland) Act 2011for the purposes of those who are to be treated as such following the death of a loved one as a result of mesothelioma.
