Ruth Kelliher joined the firm in 2007. She graduated with an LLB (Hons) from the University of Glasgow in 1999 and obtained her Diploma in Legal Practice from the Glasgow Graduate School of Law in 2000.
Ruth qualified as a Solicitor in 2002 and became Partner in 2017. She is accredited as a specialist in clinical negligence by the Law Society of Scotland and is head of Digby Brown's clinical negligence department.
Based in the Glasgow office, Ruth helps people pursue a wide range of clinical negligence cases in Scotland for rightful compensation. She specialises in birth injury and neonatal death cases as well as surgical error and fatal claims.
Ruth is ranked Band 1 as a clinical negligence solicitor by Chambers who confirm “she is a highly respected clinical negligence practitioner”. She is also recognised within Legal 500 as a leading partner in the field of clinical negligence where it is noted she “stands out for her vast knowledge of bile duct injury and neonatal death cases”.
Ruth was the lead solicitor in the case of DH v Lanarkshire Health Board. This surgical negligence case was successfully pursued on behalf of the pursuer who had swallowed his denture plate then suffered an oesophageal perforation when the plate was surgically removed. This important Court of Session judgement clarified the need for appropriate direct comparator expert evidence when pursuing clinical negligence cases.
Ruth is also a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) and is a notary public.
