Sam Cowie was born and raised in Edinburgh, then graduated from the University of Aberdeen with an LLB (Hons) in 2008. After graduating, he then completed his traineeship and joined Digby Brown as a personal injury solicitor in May 2012 before becoming an Associate in 2016 and then Partner in 2022.

Sam is the head of Digby Brown’s Inverness office and deals with a variety of accident claims including road traffic accidents, accidents at work and general cases arising from negligence. Due to the nature of the Scottish Highlands and its peculiar roads and economy, Sam has developed a particular specialism in fatal accidents. At any given time the team in Inverness could be dealing with around 10 separate fatal matters, including sometimes Fatal Accident Inquiries.

He is also a Notary Public, and a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL).

Sam is Trustee and Secretary of Headway Highland SCIO, a charity which provides support to individuals with acquired brain injury.

When Sam isn’t at work his hobbies include sailing, skiing, cycling, motorcycling, climbing and hillwalking. He is on Digby Brown’s specialist motorcycle accident and cycle accident teams. Sam credits his involvement in both of these pastimes as being of great assistance in his understanding of the unique issues which can sometimes affect cases involving motorcycle and bicycle accidents.
