Simon graduated in 2006 from the University of Glasgow and joined Digby Brown's Edinburgh office in 2009 as a personal injury solicitor. Simon has worked within Digby Brown’s Foreign and Travel department since its inception and became a partner in July 2019.
Simon deals with accident abroad claims involving Scottish people in foreign countries. He has dealt with cases involving accidents in almost all European and North American countries as well as many South American, Asian and Australasian countries. This covers all types of accidents including:
- Road traffic accidents abroad
- Workplace accidents abroad
- General holiday accidents
- Accidents on and involving aircraft
- Accidents on sea-going vessels
- Offshore accidents
- Acts of violence and sexual assault whilst on holiday
Simon also acts for foreign nationals injured in Scotland. He has acted on behalf of individuals from countries all around the world and has also litigated on behalf of Scottish nationals in many countries around the world.
Simon has been involved in a number of well-known cases. He has acted in well-publicised cases such as the Super Puma crash, the Stockline disaster, the Maltese bus crash and the attempted abduction of a young child whilst on holiday. Other notable cases include:
- Simon Morrison v Mapfre Middlesea Insurance – A Scottish man was seriously injured in a bus crash in Malta. Simon successfully recovered compensation for the client, helping secure his client justice.
- Raymond Wylie v Omniasig – Mr. Wylie was injured whilst in a car in Romania. The Court applied Romanian Law. Simon was able to help his client recover damages from a foreign insurance company. Mr. Wylie received significant compensation for the ongoing help he required from his family.
Simon has extensive court experience in both the Sheriff Court and the Court of Session. The majority of the court work takes place within the Court of Session and the All-Scotland Personal Injury Court.
He is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) and the Pan-European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers. He is presently on the board of the Pan-European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers as its member for Scotland.
