A ten-strong team from our Glasgow office took on half marathon and 10k challenges at the Great Scottish Run event on Sunday 5 October.

Despite Storm Amy’s arrival 48 hours before the race, the weather miraculously cleared on the day - and staff were raring to go to raise vital funds for their local office charity partner.

Half of our Glasgow office squad set off for the 10k race around 8.30 am with the encouragement of friends, family and staff from Crossbasket House.

The rest of the team took to the starting line soon after to begin their 21.1 kilometre run through the city.

Alasdair Flett, Solicitor, recalled the atmosphere as he set off on his half marathon run saying: “Things got off to a flying start with a big downhill right away down St Vincent Street to set the tone.

“Drummers, choirs and drag queens lined the way – and some motorists even tooted their horns as we filed over the Kingston Bridge which helped keep spirits high.”

The team focused in and all 10 successfully crossed the finish line at Glasgow Green – some with Personal Bests (PBs) achieved.

Alasdair said: “The whole team smashed it! We’d like to say a special thank you to the Crossbasket House staff who were there near the start and end of the race with shouts of encouragement – it spurred us on and reminded us who all of this was for.”

Crossbasket House (formerly Ronald McDonald House Glasgow), is a charity which gives families a place to stay while their child is seriously ill in hospital.

Children and families from all over Scotland and further afield who receive treatment at the children's hospital in Glasgow can end up very far from home for weeks, months or even years at a time. The House helps keep families together by providing free, high-quality accommodation only a few minutes’ walk from the hospital.

Thanks to the kind donations of family, friends and colleagues, the team raised a fantastic £620.

When matched by the firm, this means an incredible £1,240 will be going to Crossbasket House - helping the charity continue to support families when they need it most.

Well done, team Glasgow!
